Thank you for visiting our web site.

I’ve set out below the school’s philosophy and outlined some of our strengths.

Smestow is first and foremost a high achieving school. Our exam performance has been consistently strong and in the last three years in particular, shown continuous improvement.

Our SATs results in 2008 (no SATs in 2009), placed us within the top 20% of schools nationally in terms of value added from Primary schools. Our GCSE results again improved in 2009 and consolidated our position in the top 20 % of schools in the country for value added. Although “A Levels” may seem a long way away for many parents, you will be pleased to hear that our Post 16 performance is also strong. Our 2009 A Level results make us the third highest performing schools in Wolverhampton.

Our aim however, is not just to be a centre of academic excellence, important as that is. We also strive to produce young people who leave us as caring, compassionate and articulate individuals. Student’s personal development, happiness and emotional well being are just as important to us as academic attainment. We work hard to provide a community where everyone is everyone is valued, respected and treated as an individual. Students are treated courteously and relationships with staff are very good. We are a happy school and both students and staff like coming here to learn.

Partnerships with our parents are strong and are a key part of our success. Contact is high through a variety of communication routes and we regularly seek parents’ views on a wide range of issues.

We have a very hard working and talented staff who are keen to see the school move forward and further improve. We aim to be in the top 100 schools in the country in 2010, a goal we achieved in 2003 at Key Stage Four and in 2007 for Key Stage Three.

Our Sports college status, Artsmark Silver Award and strong departments help provide a thriving after school programme. On many nights of the week we have over a hundred students staying behind for various activities. With new buildings in 2012 we aim to keep the school open from 7.00am in the morning to 10.00pm at night and become a hub for the local community.

I hope that gives you a flavour of what we’re about. To find out more visit other areas of this site, talk to other parents phone to arrange a visit.
