History Of Smestow

Smestow opened in 1964 under the authority of Staffordshire County Council. When the Local Authority boundaries changed in 1966 it became part of Wolverhampton.

At first it was known as Tettenhall Number 2, the number 1 school became Regis now Kings school. The school badge has its origins in the Tettenhall coat of arms. The three circles in the arms in Heraldry are called watersheds, and represent rivers. One of which is the river Smestow.

The four circles in the badge represent the four houses which existed at that time. These had taken their names from the new Universities of Lancaster, Sussex, Warwick and York. The badge is also tree like in form and represents the Windmill and Battleaxes.

The Windmill represent the local Windmill which is now a private house and the Battleaxes refer to the Battle of Tettenhall which took place on 5 August 910AD. Possibly in the immediate local area. .
