Leadership

One of the major facets of Smestow as a Sports College, has been the introduction of student leadership and responsibility.
Students are given the opportunity to firstly develop through training and then their Leadership skills within the community.

There are leadership opportunities for all years, they include: Primary Festivals, Sports Days, Induction days, Primary Netball coaching, Primary Football Tournaments, Tag Rugby and disability events.

Smestow also offers the opportunity for leaders that show promise to develop and earn accredited leadership qualifications. After gaining these qualifications, students can then move on to gaining nationally recognised coaching qualifications, which many students have used to get work in the coaching industry.

The Sports College is impacting on other areas of the curriculum as well, with Literacy, Modern Foreign Languages and Geography all using some leadership in their teaching and learning in Key Stage 3. The English department now has a team of Literacy leaders, who led booster classes for younger pupils to help with their Literacy levels.
